Two higher ed unions ratify contracts

Faculty at two colleges represented by AFT Pennsylvania have ratified contracts in August. Moore College of Art and Design and Reading Area Community College both agreed to three-year contracts.

New Foundations Charter High School teachers join AFTPA

PHILADELPHIA – Teachers and professional support staff at New Foundations Charter High School in Northeast Philadelphia voted for union representation by the Alliance of Charter School Employees, an affiliate of AFT Pennsylvania and the American Federation of Teachers.

The Neshaminy Federation of Teachers and the School Board have voted to accept a fact finder's recommendations, moving the district a step closer to a new contract.

AFT Federation Union Local 762 of Claymont Delaware, which represents 120 classroom and transportation aides in the Brandywine School District, went all in with the district and community leaders to pass a tax referendum to support public education in the district and prevent across-the-board layoffs. 

Daniel Boone wins contract, loses jobs out outsourcing

The jobs of 35 grounds, custodial and maintenance workers will go from family-sustaining jobs with healthcare and pensions to low-paid, part-time outsourced jobs in July after the Daniel Boone Area School Board voted in May to outsource them to a big, Wall-Street-owned company with a sketchy record.

Federation of Pottstown Teachers begins giving free books to students

The Federation of Pottstown Teachers today launched a new program at Back to School Night that will put new, high-quality books into the hands of every student in the district. FPT, the union representing 250 teachers in Pottstown public schools, has partnered with the First Book organization to provide 16,000 high-quality books that students can take home and keep.
