Two higher ed unions ratify contracts

Two AFTPA Higher Education locals overwhelmingly ratified three (3) year contracts this week.

On Tuesday, August 19, 2017, Moore College of Art and Design approved a three-year agreement which covers both full-time faculty and adjunct faculty members.

Maureen Pelta, Moore College union president said that “this agreement makes full-time faculty salaries more competitive with other Art and Design colleges. This will give us the opportunity to attract some of the brightest and the best to teach at Moore.”

On Friday, August 22, 2017, Reading Area Community College ratified a three-year contract, which gave members a total of 8.25 percent in raises compounded to their base pay by the end of the third year of the agreement. The contract covers faculty and classified and paraprofessional staff.

Sharon Shearer, RACC president and head of the negotiating team, praised the efforts of her team and said that the new members of the administration’s team were receptive to many of the proposals made by the union.

“I think that the relationship between the union and administration has improved during these recent negotiations. We felt our concerns were being listened to and respected," Shearer said.
