Harrisburg, PA, Thursday, April 9, 2020— AFT Pennsylvania President Arthur G. Steinberg, on Thursday, issued the following statement after Governor Wolf and PA Secretary of Education Rivera announced the extension of school closures through the rest of the school year:
“I want to thank Governor Wolf and Pennsylvania Secretary of Education Pedro Rivera for their decisive action in closing schools for the remainder of the school year. While this was without a doubt a difficult decision, it provides educators, staff, parents, and caregivers much-needed clarity and certainty into the foreseeable future.
“While we await further guidance on waivers granted to school districts during this shutdown and any additional information regarding summer sessions, we are encouraged that the Wolf Administration is providing resources for virtual learning.”
