Harrisburg, PA, Thursday, February 27, 2020— AFT Pennsylvania, on Thursday, issued the following statement following an Executive Council vote to endorse Harold “Howie” Hayes for State Representative in the 18th District special election on March 17th:
On behalf of the 36,000 members across 61 locals in Pennsylvania, I am thrilled to endorse Howie Hayes for state representative,” said Arthur Steinberg, President of AFT PA. “We are especially proud to show labor solidarity by supporting a member of Plumbers Local Union 690.”
Steinberg continued, “With the upcoming special election, we have the opportunity to move one seat closer to a pro-public education majority in the House. It is imperative that our members get out and support Howie Hayes in the March 17th special election in Bucks County.”
“Howie is a longtime member of our community who knows what it’s like to raise a family in Bucks County and send his children to public school,” said Tara Huber, President of Neshaminy Federation of Teachers (NFT). “NFT members know he will have our backs and those of our students and their families in Harrisburg. We are proud to endorse a working-class candidate who will roll up his sleeves and get work done. That’s why on March 17th, we need to send Howie Hayes to the state House.”
The 18th District vacancy was created when former state Rep. Gene DiGirolamo was elected to the Bucks County Board of Commissioners. The Special Election will be held on Tuesday, March 17, 2020. The 18th PA House District comprises the entirety of Bensalem Township.
