**PRESS RELEASE**
AFT Pennsylvania Responds To Supreme Court Decision In Dobbs v. Jackson

Plymouth Meeting, PA— On behalf of its 36,000 members and 64 locals, Arthur G. Steinberg, President of AFT Pennsylvania on Wednesday issued a statement in response to the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson.

“In a startling continuation of leading the United States to a state of full authoritarianism, the ill-gotten majority on the U.S. Supreme Court has once again visited violence on the majority of our citizens. Access to reproductive health services, including the right to an abortion, has legally been part of the American health care system for half a century. Today, it was summarily stripped away by group of six corporatist, rightwing ideologues, who just earlier this week ruled that tax dollars must be provided to religious institutions in the form of education vouchers.

“Representing a profession that is dominated by people who can get pregnant, access to abortion is an issue that affects educators, school staff, and their families. Access to reproductive health care is vital to the economic freedom of our members.

“Abortion remains legal in Pennsylvania. And to keep it legal, we must elect Josh Shapiro our next Governor and make gains in the House to avoid GOP end-runs around the legislative process.”
