Neshaminy FT wins new contract

The Neshaminy Federation of Teachers and the School Board have voted to accept a fact finder's recommendations, moving the district a step closer to a new contract.

Members of the Neshaminy Federation of Teachers voted overwhelmingly on Thursday, Sept. 29, to accept the recommendations of an independent fact finder who was brought in to resolve outstanding issues in negotiations between the union and the School District. The board voted 6-0 to accept the recommendations a week later.

“We are pleased the School Board has accepted the fact finder’s recommendations, which moves us closer to reaching a fair and equitable contract,” said NFT President Tara Huber.

“Now we can move forward together for the good of our students, the district and the community,” Huber said.  “While the fact finder’s recommendations do not address all of the issues, they address the most critical areas of concern for a majority of our members. The board’s decision is an opportunity to achieve something that has been missing for too long in the district – labor peace and stability.”

The union and district negotiators held eight, face-to-face negotiating sessions before they entered fact finding. Both parties must accept the fact finder’s report for the process to move forward.

Teachers and other professional school employees have continued working under a one-year contract that expired June 30, 2016.
