"Philadelphia is ground zero for injustice," said AFT President Randi Weingarten at an Oct. 16 protest that shut down North Broad Street in Philadelphia in response to the SRC's cancellation of the PFT contract 10 days earlier. Protesters didn't hide the fact that they plan more disruption if the SRC's actions aren't undone. Philadelphia AFL-CIO President Pat Eiding said if the action isn't reversed "We will turn this city upside down." State Sen. Tina Tartaglione called the SRC's actions a "disgrace" and said her first legislative proposal when she returns to Harrisburg in January will be to "abolish the SRC."
